Internet poker has many different styles, which can be classified to four groups: draw, stud, community and brag. Texas Holdem is considered the most popular and falls under community poker.
Community poker means that the players are required to use a group of shared, or community cards, in order to form their hand.
In poker Texas Holdem each player is being dealt two cards face down that remain concealed. In addition, 4 cards are pulled, which are common to all players. Together, the private and community cards form each player’s hand.
The cards aren’t being dealt all at once – Texas Holdem has 4 rounds, during which the players obtain their private and community cards. In each round, the players have to consider whether to remain in the game or to fold, and each players that chooses to remain has to raise his bet (bets are raised at each round).
In the first round of Texas Holdem, the players must place an initial bet in order to enter the game. That stage takes place before they even see the cards. After all players have placed their initial bets, they are each dealt their two private cards and then a second round takes place after all players have decided to either remain or fold and lost their initial bet. Then the dealer reveals the three shared cards. After the players have seen three of the four shared cards, the third round begins, where the players still have the option of folding. Eventually, the dealer reveals the fourth shared card which is followed by and fourth and final round. In case more then one player remains in the game, the cards are revealed. A player is entitled to not reveal his cards, but that means he cannot win.
During exposure and comparison of the hands the private cards are combined with the shared cards and the strongest hand wins.
